Tracheal stenosis due to huge adenomatous goiter

چکیده
Background: Some thyroid anaplastic carcinoma and lymphoma have been reported to cause tracheal stenosis or choking. Begin thyroid tumors with dyspnea due to tracheal stenosis are exceedingly rare. Case presentation: We experienced a huge adenomatous goiter (resected specimen weight: 520g). Total thyroidectomy resolved the dyspnea and there was no tracheomalacia. Postoperative CT confirmed a normal tracheal lumen free from stenosis. Conclusions: We reviewed the CT findings of thyroid benign tumors with dyspnea and found that tumors occupied the space between the posterior wall of trachea and esophagus leading to tracheal stenosis as in our case. Such tracheal findings would actually lead to dyspnea. Huge multinodular goiter with mid trachea obstruction: indication for fiberoptic intubation.
Goiter or thyromegaly is one of the most common causes of mid tracheal obstruction (external compression or stenosis), which may be associated with difficult larynx visualization and/or difficult airway management, depending on the goiter size, type and ingrowth into the surrounding tissue. Iodine deficiency disorders are still one of the most common causes of goiter in the population of the Af...
متن کاملSuccessful management of trachea stenosis with massive substernal goiter via thacheobronchial stent
A case of 65 year-old Chinese male patient with severe tracheal stenosis due to a massive substernal goiter, is presented. MRI and CT scan revealed that the massive substernal goiter was 9.3 × 6.1 × 4.7 cm in size, displacing the trachea and adjacent large vessels to the patient's right contributing to severe intrathoracic trachea compression up to 6 cm in length and the narrowest caliber of th...
متن کاملThyroidectomy for Massive Goiter Weighing more than 500 Grams. Technical Difficulties, Complications and Management. Review
Background: Multinodular goiter is a relatively common thyroid disorder with a marked female preponderance. Most of these goiters weigh less than 100 grams with those weighing more than 500 grams being exceptional. The massively expanding goiter due to the strategic anatomic location of thyroid gland, in addition to being cosmetically disfiguring can seriously compromise the patency of the trac...
متن کاملUnilateral pulmonary agenesis associated with colloidal goiter in a newborn: a case report.
Unilateral pulmonary agenesis is a very rare developmental malformation that is often associated with other anomalies. It can be asymptomatic or present with respiratory symptoms. Our case is a female newborn infant who had been taken to the hospital suffering from difficulty in breathing at the first day of birth. The baby died at the age of three days due to respiratory failure. On autopsy ex...
متن کاملLong-term results after 110 tracheal resections
OBJECTIVE Among the many therapeutic options for treating tracheal stenosis (e.g. bouginage, laser resection and stenting), segmental resection and reconstruction with end-to-end anastomosis is the method of choice. We verified this in an analysis of clinical material. PATIENTS AND METHODS We retrospectively evaluated 110 tracheal sleeve resections performed between 1985 and 2001. Data before...
